Famed Greek philosopher Socrates said “All men’s souls are immortal, but the souls of the righteous are immortal and divine.” Immortals opens with this saying and the importance of which you realise only towards the end, making you feel the need to watch the movie again to capture this essence in its entirety. That is how smoothly the movie flows.
The story is set in ancient Greece where men have all but forgotten the mythic struggle between immortals (Gods) that resulted in the defeat of the Titans (elder Gods). These victorious immortals lead by Zeus, imprisoned the Titans deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros. The Titans thirst for revenge and their release means certain destruction of the earth.
Only the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares, can unleash them. And this is evil King Hyperion’s (Mickey Rourke) search as he grounds village after village to dust, showing no mercy in is search for the magic bow. He is told that Phaedra (Freida Pinto) is the oracle who can find this bow for him. What he does not know that she also has foreseen that an ordinary peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) will rise up against the king to save mankind from the terrible disaster.
The Gods cannot intervene to help Theseus against Hyperion’s treachery until the Titans are unleashed according to an ancient law. As such, Theseus is on his own in his endeavour to fight against injustice and to protect the weak. Is he witty and powerful enough to match against the power and might of Hyperion? Will the Gods buckle under the might of evil and break the law to protect man?

But the comparison ends just before you begin to think about it as the action unfolds. Watching it in 3D makes it even more believable and you grip the armrest wondering what the hell is going to happen next. The cities are cut into mountains making you more claustrophobic and you yearn for some space. Exactly the feeling you are meant to have.
This is Director Tarsem at his best. Twisting the story along as he skilfully weaves computer graphics with action, blood, drama and an amazing amount of gore that is quite disturbing yet does not make you flinch (barring a few scenes). They all add to the movie that is breathlessly heart thumping right till the end credits.
Ladies, beware your drool. Henry Cavill is all chiselled and half clothed throughout the movie, dressed like a Greek God and looking like an immortal. His six feet of muscle stands out in sharp contrast to the background and he..
